Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Now Japan’s Second Best-Selling Game Ever
Since Nintendo released its latest financial results, we’ve been hearing a lot about Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales. It’s now sold over 22 million copies worldwide which means it has sold more copies than the entire Metroid franchise.
If this wasn’t already enough proof of just how big Nintendo’s life sim series has become over the years, Game Data Library has crunched some numbers – revealing the most recent entry is now the second best-selling video game ever within Japan.
The only game ahead of it is the original Pokémon title on Game Boy, which has shifted a whopping 10,230,000 units (mind you, that’s the combined total of Red, Green and Blue). Technically this means Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the best-selling single SKU in Japan – putting it ahead of the original Super Mario Bros. game in four months.
