For a Third Time, Drake Replaces Himself at No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay Chart

For those who think Drake’s count is overrun with featured appearances, think again. Though the superstar, like most of his versatile hip-hop contemporaries, has benefited from guest spots on other artists’ songs, his 21 No. 1s through lead or co-lead appearances ensure he would hold the record regardless.

Drake’s 32nd Rhythmic No. 1 arrives just one week after his 31st. As “What’s Next” evicts Yung Bleu’s “You’re Mines Still,” on which Drake contributes supporting vocals, atop the list, the superstar replaces himself at No. 1 on the radio ranking for the third time in his career. He previously pulled consecutive punches in 2016, when the Views single “Controlla” ceded the throne after two weeks to DJ Khaled’s “For Free,” on which he features. Three weeks later, “Free” surrendered to Drake’s own “Too Good,” featuring Rihanna, which began a six-week stretch on top.

Beyond its Rhythmic coronation, “Next” sets its sights on the Rap Airplay chart, where it climbs 4-2 thanks to a 5% gain in audience in the week ending April 18. The track, now in its seventh week on the list, had picked up the chart’s Greatest Gainer award for the best percentage audience growth in each of its first five weeks on the list.
