The job-seekers shockingly possess Degrees such as Bachelor and Master of Technology (B.Tech, M.Tech) as well as Master of Computer Applications (MCA).
In a region grappling with unemployment, the candidacy of highly educated youths reflects the challenges faced. Subrat Das, a postgraduate, Navin Minj, a diploma holder in electrical engineering, and Subhasis Nayak, a postgraduate in Social Sciences, explained why many are drawn to these roles.
What compelled thousands to apply?
“I tried for a job at several places but to no avail. Left with no other option, I applied here for the post of home guard. If I get the job by the grace of Almighty, it is well and good. Else, I will become helpless. I am not getting a job even after studying so much,” the frustrated youth, Navin Minj, said to OTV.
Despite the temporary and voluntary nature of the positions, which last typically for three years, these highly qualified candidates perceive them as government-affiliated work amidst shrinking opportunities elsewhere.
The recruitment notice was issued on February 19, with applications invited from February 21 to March 12. Candidates are required to have a variety of skills, including proficiency in computer operations, driving, cooking, electrical work, and plumbing, etc.
Age requirement is set between 20 and 60 years, with the educational standard now raised to a minimum of Class 10 from the previous educational qualification of Class 5.
The large number of applications, even from those job-seekers with advanced qualifications, underscores a preference for government-related employment due to limited availability of public sector jobs.
