Internet Obsessed With Corgi x Golden Retriever Mix: ‘Best of Both Worlds’

TikTok users have fallen in love with a “designer dog breed” that is not spotted too often walking down the street.

A quick glance at Toby and one would say he looks exactly like a golden retriever. Well, that is until one notices the famous stubby legs of a corgi holding up this golden floofster.

Toby is a special crossbred between a golden retriever and a corgi: a golden corgi.

The owner showed off Toby in a TikTok video posted to the account @toby_corgi_golden. The November 23 clip quickly reached over 1.5 million views and 132,600 likes as viewers were stunned by the adorableness.

People have been swooning over Toby and it’s hard not to. One look at this precious doggo will make you fall in love.

Why have two different dogs when you can have the “best of both worlds” with a golden corgi?

“Corgi mix always looks like corgi cosplaying as a different breed,” commented one TikTok user.

Another viewer said: “Gosh how adorable and cute is this little dude? Never seen a Golden Retriever with so short legs.”

“Golden Lowride,” said @jakubarvay.

Newsweek reached out via TikTok for comment.

History of Golden Corgis

Although the golden corgi may have been around for longer, the hybrid dog breed was intentionally created in North America in the late 1990s, according to K9 Web.

Mixed breeds can result in a variety of different looks, but for the most part, golden corgis are medium to large-sized dogs. They can weigh between 30 to 75 pounds and reach up to 18 inches. Their lifespan is about 10 to 13 years.

Golden corgis bring out the best traits from both parents. They are loyal, intelligent, gentle, playful, and loving, Pet Keen reported. This crossbred also does extremely well with families. Just be prepared for the year-round shedding.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis and golden retrievers are very common among dog owners. Both breeds rounded out the top 11 of the American Kennel Club’s most popular dog breeds of 2022 with golden retrievers sitting in third behind French bulldogs and Labrador retrievers.

But despite the popularity of these two breeds individually, the golden corgi is not a recognized breed by the American Kennel Club, making it harder to find breeders.

Other popular corgi mixes include the horgi (husky and corgi), corman shepherd (corgi and German shepherd), and the dorgi (corgi and dachshund).
