Recycling in Fayette County

Dear Editor,
I wanted to share my concerns on the disappointing state of recycling in Fayette County. Within the last few years, the transfer station has gone from taking all recyclables (minus glass) to only taking cardboard/corrugated boxes and metal. in the last month they have stopped taking cardboard and corrugate. That means that any county residents that do not live in PTC have no place to deposit most recyclables. There is no place for anyone in the county to recycle plastic bottles. Our neighboring counties all maintain at least one recycling collection point for their residents.
In a recent attempt to recycle, I had to make 3 stops (Publix for plastic grocery bags, the boy scout trailer behind the Crosstown Kroger for aluminum cans and the SCT glass recycling dumpster on Grady Ave in Fayetteville for glass) and still returned home with all of my cardboard/corrugate, paper and plastic bottles.
I will be sharing my concerns with my county commissioner but am also hoping that the power of the press can assist in bringing some light to the disappointing state of recycling in our county.
vr,
Keith B.
