Demi Lovato On the Song She’d Perform ‘If I Ever Make It Back to the Stage’: Exclusive ‘Dancing With the Devil’ Clip

And sing it she did. After an 18-month break from performing, Lovato returned to a major stage by debuting the emotional song at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Before making her highly anticipated return, she told Zane Lowe in an interview that “Anyone” was written just four days before her overdose.

“I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself,” she said at the time. “I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help. And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, ‘How did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl’?”

It’s not hard to see why Lovato felt the lyrics were a cry for help. The chorus pleads: “Anyone, please send me anyone/ Lord, is there anyone?/ I need someone, oh/ Anyone, please send me anyone/ Lord, is there anyone?/ I need someone.”

Shortly after “Anyone’s” Jan. 26, 2020, debut, it earned the singer her 30th career entry on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 34. The ballad was also her first time back on the chart since 2018’s “Sober” and “Solo.”
