Essex County OPP said an initial investigation revealed that the vehicle had veered off the road, crashed into a ditch, and ignited.
The three occupants managed to escape before the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Using an approved screening device, OPP officials determined that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to the incident. The driver was arrested and taken the the Essex County OPP detachment for further testing.
The two other passengers were transported to the hospital for minor injuries as a precaution.
The driver has been charged with impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, and dangerous operation.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in downtown Windsor on Sept. 20.
