Deep depression to move towards Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts; extremely heavy rain likely

Depression to intensify into deep depression
The Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 6 hours and is about 340 km south-southeast of Trincomalee, 630 km south-southeast of Nagapattinam, 750 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 830 km southsoutheast of Chennai.
It is likely to move nearly north-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.
Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move north-northwestwards towards Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts during the subsequent two days.
After intensifying into deep depression, maximum sustained surface wind speed of 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail till November 29, 2024.
Rainfall Warning
Tamil Nadu & Puducherry: Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry on 26th & 27th and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 28th and heavy rainfall at isolated places on 29th November.
South Coastal Andhra Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely during 26th to 29th November.
Wind Warning
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over adjoining areas of westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off south Andhra Pradesh coasts from 27th November.
It would increase gradually becoming 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over the same region during 28th to 29th November.
