Numbers: Gnabry and Lewandowski (24) overtake Bale and Ronaldo (23)

After a bright opening period saw Olympique Lyonnais spurn a number of great chances, a Serge Gnabry brace and a Robert Lewandowski goal was for enough for Bayern Munich to make the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League final. Once again, we bring you the best numbers from the game.

2

In the 65 years of the European Cup/Champions League, this is only the second time a German team will have faced a French team in the final. The first happened in 1976, when Bayern Munich beat Saint-Étienne 1-0.

Also, 2

Bayern Munich are just the second team to win all of their UCL matches en-route to the final. The other team to do so? AC Milan in 1992-93…. they lost to a French team, Marseille, in the final.

9

Well, Thomas Muller was right on that one wasn’t he? Lewan-goal-ski, indeed. Robert Lewandowski has now scored in nine straight matches in the UCL; the third time a player has scored in 9 straight games in European Cup history (Cristiano Ronaldo (11 in 2018) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (9 in 2003).

Also, 9

Serge Gnabry’s 9 UCL goals this season are the second most by a German in a single season. Only Mario Gomez (12 in 2011-12) has scored more.

And another 9

Bayern Munich advancing to the final means that there will be a ninth European Treble winner this season, as both PSG and Bayern won their domestic leagues and cups.

Bayern have won the European Treble once before, in 2012-13, so if they win this one, they will join Barcelona as the only club that has won the European Treble in multiple seasons.

11

Bayern Munich will play their 11th European Cup/UCL final. This equals AC Milan for second place in the all-time list. The team in first place? Real Madrid, who have played 16 finals.

15

Lewandowski’s 15 goals this UCL season are tied for the third most goals in a single UCL season (with Cristiano Ronaldo). He is now only the second player to score 15 or more goals in a single campaign after that man Ronaldo (who’s done it three times – 15 in 17/18, 16 in 15/16, 17 in 13/14).

24

The 24 combined goals scored by Lewandowski (15) and Gnabry (9) are the most by a pair of teammates in a single UEFA Champions League season, surpassing the tally by Cristiano Ronaldo (17) and Gareth Bale (6) in 2013-14 for Real Madrid.

The 24 they have scored is more than every other team in the competition except PSG (who have scored 25)

29

Bayern Munich are undefeated in their last 29 matches. This is how their results look over that period (most recent first): WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWDWWWWWWWW

42 x 5

This is quite the stat. This season’s UCL final will see the top scoring attack (Bayern 42 goals scored) take on the best defense (PSG, 5 goals conceded, 7 clean sheets).
