Estrada vs. Chocolatito 2 result: Estrada gets revenge over Gonzalez with split decision in all-out war
It was expected to be a war, and that’s exactly what we got.
Juan Francisco Estrada retained his WBC and The Ring super flyweight titles and added the WBA (Super) title to his collection with a hard-fought split-decision victory over Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Saturday night.
It was a rematch more than eight years in the making after Chocolatito defeated Estrada in November 2012. Estrada got his revenge in an action-packed, back-and-forth battle.
A super flyweight-record 2,529 punches were thrown in the fight, with Estrada landing 314 of 1,212 (26 percent) while Chocolatito landed 391 of his 1,317 punches thrown (30 percent). But it was Estrada who came out on top, with one scorecard of 115-113 and a rather egregious card that had him ahead 117-111. The third judge favored Chocolatito 115-113. SN scored the fight a 114-114 draw.
“I think I did enough to win,” Estrada (42-3) said. “Chocolatito is a great fighter and I think he deserves the trilogy.”
The fight was all action from the opening bell. Estrada attempted to create distance early while Chocolatito powered through and landed hard combinations. The pendulum swung both ways throughout, with each having their moments. Despite being the underdog, Chocolatito (50-3) demonstrated exactly why he was widely recognized as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world after Floyd Mayweather retired. Every time Estrada would attack, Gonzalez would step through and attempt to return fire with equal velocity.
In the end, Estrada unified the titles, but with the series now 1-1, it’s expected that a third fight will happen. And we won’t have to wait another eight-plus years for it.
Here’s how it all went down:

Jessica McCaskill retains undisputed championship with wide decision over Cecilia Braekhus
Result: Just like the last fight, McCaskill used pressure and volume to overwhelm Braekhus to pull away early. This time, though, she didn’t need the point deduction as she won with wide scores of 100-89, 99-90 and 98-91. The judges clearly favored McCaskill’s aggression. As for Braekhus, could this be her last fight?
Round 10 (11:30 p.m.): Both ladies are fighting like they want it but McCaskill’s constant pressure is proving to be the difference-maker. Braekhus begins to land with more frequency toward the end of the round and may steal it but the fight belongs to McCaskill. 10-9, Braekhus (97-92, McCaskill)
Round 9 (11:27 p.m.): McCaskill’s aggressive approach has just been too much for Braekhus to this point. The punches are heavier and landing at bit more cleaner than those of Braekhus. With the rounds being so short, she continues to leave a lasting impression with her approach. 10-9, McCaskill (88-82, McCaskill)
Round 8 (11:24 p.m.): Braekhus needs a knockout and is aware that the point deduction has her well behind on the scorecards. McCaskill lands a right hand while Braekhus is the busier puncher. But McCaskill has been more effective and takes a close round. 10-9, McCaskill (78-73, McCaskill)
Round 7 (11:21 p.m.): More of the same from McCaskill and, surprisingly, the referee docks Braekhus a point for holding. That’s going to hurt. 10-8, McCaskill (68-64, McCaskill)
Round 6 (11:18 p.m.): McCaskill attempts to swarm Braekhus but is met with a jab and a right hand. She finds a home for the long jab and fends off her opponent’s advances. 10-9, Braekhus (58-56, McCaskill)
Round 5 (11:14 p.m.): It’s rinse and repeat for McCaskill as she simply throws punches while moving forward and manages to land several on her way in. Braekhus lands a combination and a left hand toward the end of the round to sneak it out. 10-9, Braekhus (49-46, McCaskill)
Round 4 (11:11 p.m.): Braekhus is trying to create distance but McCaskill has no respect for her power and charges right in. Right hand by McCaskill over the top is the most meaningful punch of the round as Braekhus just can’t seem to land anything clean. 10-9, McCaskill (40-36, McCaskill)

McCaskill runs her right into an overhand right that staggers her again. Yet another close round that ends up going to McCaskill with a late power shot. 10-9, McCaskill (20-18, McCaskill)
Round 1 (11:03 p.m.): As expected, McCaskill opens aggressively and immediately presses the action. McCaskill lands a hard right hand. Braekhus looking to pick her spots but McCaskill isn’t giving her much breathing room. Right hand lands for Braekhus and a combination follows. McCaskill sneaks in a left hand. A hard left wobbles Braekhus badly as the round comes to a close. Great start by McCaskill. (10-9, McCaskill).
10:52 p.m.: Up next is the rematch between Jessica McCaskill and Cecilia Braekhus for the undisputed women’s welterweight champion. McCaskill stunned the previously unbeaten Braekhus to take the WBC, IBF, WBO and WBA titles with a controversial decision victory. Braekhus now adds her The Ring welterweight title to the mix as everything is on the line in this showdown.
10:09 p.m.: In a disappointing turn of events, Hiroto Kyoguchi retained his WBA junior flyweight title against Axel “El Mini” Vega when Vega was forced to retire do to injury in the fifth round. It was a competitive fight throughout with Kyoguchi seemingly ahead until Vega threw a right hand that landed on his opponent but resulted in a broken hand. Vega turned his back in pain immediately and the fight was halted as Vega left himself completely defenseless. It’s unfortunate as the clash was entertaining and happened to be Kyoguchi’s United States debut.
9:34 p.m.: Austin “Ammo” Williams staked his claim as one of the brightest young talents in boxing with a dominant performance against late replacement Denis Douglin to earn a unanimous decision. Williams improved to 8-0 against an opponent who has been in there with the likes of David Benavidez, George Groves and Jermell Charlo. Williams looked to get a finish and appeared to come close on a few occasions but Douglin’s veteran experience allowed him to hang in there when the going got tough. But for Williams, this was a fantastic performance by a young fighter looking to be noticed.
8:50 p.m.: Raymond Ford was supposed to easily improve to 9-0 against the unheralded Aaron Perez. Instead, he came away with a disappointing split draw after Perez broguht the fight to Ford from the opening bell and refused to allow Ford to get into any sort of comfort zone. The 78-74 scorecard for Perez was absurd but Ford needs to take the blame for allowing a fighter that he was clearly better than put him in position to lose. He ended up with a draw but, more importantly, a learning lesson to take every opponent seriously.
