Besigye Ends Hunger Strike as Case Moves to Civilian Court
Veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye has called off his hunger strike following the transfer of his case from a military tribunal to a civilian court. Besigye, who had been protesting his prosecution under military jurisdiction, welcomed the move as a step towards justice.
His decision came after legal and political pressure mounted on authorities to ensure due process. Supporters and human rights activists had condemned his trial in a military court, arguing it undermined civilian judicial independence.
With the case now set to proceed in a civilian court, Besigye has vowed to continue his fight for democracy and justice in Uganda.
