Clashes between police and protesters escalate across Kasur
KASUR: The protests in Kasur continued on second day of seven-year-old girl Zanaib’s murder.
Zainab was raped and murdered after being abducted six days ago. Her dead body was found at garbage dump site. Two people were killed during protests yesterday because of firing by Punjab police.
Huge number of protesters blocked traffic at Steel Bagh and other entrance points of city. Slogans against Punjab government and police were raised. Police fired tear gas on crowds near Shahbaz road roundabout,
Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmed said the suspect in the CCTV footage has not been identified by any local person yet. He said they have a clue and will soon arrest the main suspect. Talking to The Nation, he said intelligence and police are working together to unearth
Jamat-e-Islami Chairman Siraj-ul-Haq reached Zainab’s house and expressed his condolences with the family.
While talking to media, Haq criticized Punjab Government, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab police for taking no action over kidnappings, rapes and murders of children in Kasur.
“They must have taken action against it,” said Haq.
The whole city has been sealed completely as shops, markets and streets are closed. The police and administration, however, is totally vanished.
