Coronation Street star Adam Hussain has spoken out about the real reason for his soap exit, confirming whether it was his decision.

Fans have been left saddened this week to see his character, Aadi Alahan, leave Weatherfield for a new life in India following his recent calamities, with one involving a set-up robbery at the corner shop and another accidentally spiking Lauren Bolton with LSD.

Now, Adam, who joined the ITV soap in 2020, taking over the role of Dev and Sunita Alahan’s son from another actor, Zennon Ditchett, who had already played the character for ten years, has told how it was his decision to leave the cobbles behind in the search of new opportunities.

Speaking the the Mirror, he said: “My life has changed for the better since I joined Corrie and it has been such an honour to be part of the amazing cast.

“I joined during the Covid pandemic, which was a weird and surreal time to take on a new character.

“I’ve loved playing Aadi, I have made good friends on the set, and I am going to miss Corrie dearly.

“But I am going to be 25 in October, and I felt it was the right time to leave. It was my decision, and the producers were so understanding.

“I want to spread my wings a little, go out in the big world and see what else I can do. I am really excited as I’ve got a new role in a horror feature film. I can’t say too much yet, but I am looking forward to it.”

He also told of his ‘relief’ that Corrie bosses decided against killing his character off, with them ‘leaving the door open’ for a possible return in the future.

Earlier this year, there was speculation that Adam would be bowing out of the long-running show before, in April, the soap star confirmed his plans to leave.

He took to Instagram shared a snap of him with the whole Corrie cast, captured last year, and said: “I guess the secrets out now! As some of you may have heard, I will be leaving Coronation Street for new pastures,’ the actor penned, alongside a recent photo of the full Corrie cast.

“Over the 5 years I’ve spent there I have learned so much about the world and the industry and now feel I am ready to spread my wings a little. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and will surely miss such a special family!”

He finished: “This isn’t a farewell for Aadi however, more like a see you later!

“I’m excited to see what the future brings! Thank you Coronation Street for giving me such a privilege of portraying this character for you. Until next time!”
