Diego Luna Is Pumped for K-2SO’s Return in Andor Season 2

As fantastic as Andor season one was, it was missing one big thing. Here are some clues. He’s black, metal, super snarky, and eventually gives his life for the Rebellion. We’re talking about K-2SO, Cassian’s droid best friend from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. K-2 didn’t appear in the first season, but he will be back for season two, and star Diego Luna is incredibly excited about it.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Luna talked about what it was like to reunite not just with K-2, but his performer Alan Tudyk. “It was delicious to get to work with Alan again and be on the same set with him,” Luna said. “It just helps fulfill the full circle.” The actor thinks the addition of the droid will help recontextualize Rogue One for fans. “You’re going to see why K-2 is so important in Rogue One,” Luna added, “And how does he get to be such an important character for the Rebellion.”

Previously, Luna has teased that the events of Andor season two will change the audience’s perception of Rogue One and, in this interview, he says the same. But it’s the specificity that he relates it to K2 that’s most intriguing. “I think people watching Rogue One, after watching season two, are going to see a different film,” Luna said. “Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It’s going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it’ll be really cool.”

In other Andor news, Luna also was part of this video released by official Star Wars social media accounts. In it, he hypes up season two and explains what fans who have been following along already know: that it’ll cover four years of Cassian’s life, broken up into four three-episode chapters. The final one will then lead directly into the events of Rogue One and, Luna hopes, fans will be able to check them out back to back. “I’m sure someone from Lucasfilm and Disney will give us the opportunity to watch season two and then go straight to watch the film on a big screen with tons of popcorn and friends around,” he said.

With The Acolyte having just finished, next up for Star Wars is Skeleton Crew, which debuts December 3. That’ll then run into January which potentially lines Andor season two up for maybe March 2025? That’s just an educated guess. Either way though, it’s going to be a major event.
