Gwen Stefani Jokingly Invites Ellen to Be Her Maid of Honor, Complete With Mauve Bridesmaid Dress

“You just tell me the time and the place, and I will be there for you,” DeGeneres assured her friend. “Anything you ask, I will wear. I will put extensions in my hair, anything at all. That’s how much I love you Gwen.”

The couple got engaged in October after five years of dating. Stefani and Shelton are nominated for music event of the year at the 2021 ACM Awards with their duet “Nobody But You,” marking the former’s first-ever ACM nod. “Nobody But You” also went No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, Stefani’s first leader on and visit to the tally, as did their other duet “Happy Anywhere.” In the midst of Stefani’s return to the reggae- and ska-influenced pop music that catapulted her into superstardom in the early aughts with her band No Doubt, DeGeneres wondered what her success in the country genre means for her future as an artist.

“I mean, I really just hopped on a couple songs, which was an honor,” the hit singer-songwriter responded. “Blake Shelton has 27 No. 1 radio hits. Never in my wildest dreams would’ve imagined being part of that. To be on a song that goes No. 1 in a genre that I have no business being part of — twice! — and now up for these awards, it’s pretty monumental and exciting and unexpected. Country music, the whole genre is just such an incredible writing community that I feel so much respect and I’ve learned so much from just all the songs Blake has shown me.”
