Heavy rainfall alert in Odisha; 18 ODRAF teams deployed, NDRF teams in 4 districts

The deep depression crossed Odisha coast close to Puri during 10:30 am and 11:30 am on Monday. Normal life in some parts of Odisha, especially in Malkangiri and Koraput has been affected due to heavy rainfall triggered by low pressure and subsequent intensification of deep depression.

The Odisha government on Monday said that a minor flood is likely in the state. However, the heavy rainfall has adversely affected normal life in Malkangiri district which has received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Odisha Chief Secretary today reviewed rainfall situation triggered by the deep depression. The review meeting was held at the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office in Bhubaneswar.

Operations in Koraput and Malkangiri

Koraput and Malkangiri and other parts of the state have been receiving heavy rainfall activities in the past couple of days.

Senior officials of various departments attended the review meeting in view of the IMD’s forecast of more rainfall and chances of flash flood in affected pockets of the state. SRC said that first Koraput’s Kundra block received heavy rainfall. Though vehicular traffic was affected, the situation has improved. But Malkangiri received heavy rainfall from yesterday (September 8) and low lying roads and bridges have been submerged. ODRAF and Fire Services team are carrying out necessary relief and rescue operations.

All assistance is being provided to the officials of the concerned district officials. Odisha SRC on Present Weather Situation According to SRC, focus is being given on Malkangiri district as rainfall has reduced but it is still continuing. It is expected that rain is likely to continue for one more day. Five teams of Odisha Fire Services are deployed for rescue operations. Some families in Malkangiri town have been relocated.

ODRAF teams have been despatched to southern Odisha like Rayagada, Jeypore from Chhatrapur and other areas. Coastal districts Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal are also under watch. NDRF teams are deployed here as a precautionary measure.

Highest rainfall of 253 mm recorded in Malkangiri block.

3 blocks (Malkangiri, Chitrakonda and Khoirput of Malkangiri) received over 200 mm rainfall.

Over 100 mm rainfall: 6 Blocks (Korukunda, Mathili, Kalimela of Malkangiri district and Borigumma, Boipariguda and Lamtapur of Koraput district).

Deployment of ODRAF: Total 18 Teams

* Malkangir – 6 Teams

* Koraput/ Jeypore – 2 Teams

* Rayagada – 2 Teams

* Ganjam – 2 teams

* Kandhamal – 2 teams

* Boudh – 2 Teams

* Bolangir – 2 teams

Deployment of NDRF:

* 6 Teams of NDRF have been moved to Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh 2 teams are kept standby

De-Watering: For Bhubaneswar 30 additional pumps, for Cuttack 10 additional pumps and for Puri 10 additional pumps are kept in readiness.
