The IRS is expected to push its April 15 tax filing deadline by approximately a month, though no exact deadline has been set, according to multiple reports.

Why it matters: The decision comes after lawmakers have asked the agency to postpone the deadline due to “what is becoming one of the most complicated tax seasons in decades” due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bloomberg writes.

The state of play: The deadline for tax filing is expected to be pushed to mid-May, per reports.

  • “The IRS is still figuring out what the final deadline will be,” Bloomberg writes.
  • “We must not minimize or trivialize the hardships of taxpayers and tax professionals or the urgent need for deferment from an arduous filing environment,” the American Institute of CPAs wrote in a statement, per Fox Business.
