This morning, Zimbabweans woke up to several posts sharing that the Former Minister of Finance and Economic Development Simbarashe Herbert Stanley Makoni, famously known as Simba Makoni, was dead at 74 Years of age.

An X account purporting to be run by the Children of Zimbabwe War Veterans Association shared that the politician passed on.

The politician who was on the news last night speaking at Cde Chigubu ‘s funeral has been confirmed to be alive and well despite that circulating news.

People debunk news of Simba Makoni’s death

Many users have come under the post to share that the news is false, urging the X user to delete his post. According to many X users, the Simba Makoni who died is the politician’s cousin who shares the same name as the politician.

The cousin is rumoured to have collapsed and died in Nyabadza two days ago.

Netizens warned against spreading fake news

Social media users have been warned against spreading fake news and not confirming with close friends or family before posting news of someone’s death.

Simba Makoni will be at the National Heroes acre today for the burial of Cde Chigudu. His friends have denied the death rumours, and he is yet to make a statement of his own on the matter.
