Kaizer Chiefs’ Youngest players in PSL history
Kaizer Chiefs have never been shy about giving a young player a chance to show what they can do.
If you are good enough, you are old enough, as the old saying goes.
Here, we take a look at the five youngest players to debut for the Chiefs first team.
Wandile Duba
When Wandile Duba debuted in Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-0 away win over Golden Arrows in December 2022, coming off the bench to replace Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana with just a few minutes on the clock, he became the fifth youngest player to make their bow at the age of 18 years six months and four days.
Duba is still around the Chiefs squad and, at the age of 19, has quite a bit of time to make his impact at Naturena.
Mduduzi Shabalala
Mduduzi Shabalala is another player in the current group who made a teenage debut for Kaizer Chiefs. Shabalala made his debut on 21 May 2022 in a 2-2 draw with Moroka Swallows.
Shabalala is still considered a bright prospect as well and could be a future star with the Glamour Boys.
Once youngest Kaizer Chiefs player Mandla Masango
For over ten years, winger Mandla Masango was the youngest player to debut for Kaizer Chiefs, and his bow was a truly memorable one.
Masango bagged a goal on his debut, scoring a tenth-minute header in the Chiefs’ victory over Thanda Royal Zulu in the 2007/8 season.
Wiseman Meyiwa
When Wiseman Meyiwa played his first Premiership match for the Glamour Boys, he also became the first under-18 player to make a first-team appearance in the Premiership. Meyiwa was a product of the Kaizer Chiefs academy, having joined the club in 2014.
During the 2017/2018 campaign, Meyiwa earned promotion to the first team by then manager Steve Komphela. He scored on debut against Cape Town City in September 2017, aged just 17. In doing so he broke the long-standing club record held by Marks Maponyane and became the youngest player to both represent and score for the club in a full appearance.
Sadly, his career was cut short by an accident in 2018, which left him paralysed.
Youngest Kaizer Chiefs player Keletso Sifama
Keletso Sifama promised much after his debut as a 17-year-old in August 2020 but couldn’t break through amid the chaos that has enveloped the club over the last few years.
Sifama now plies his trade at Sekhukhune United, but plenty are still backing him for big things.
