Lucas Leiva names young Liverpool duo who will ‘play a big part’ under Arne Slot

Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes two Liverpool stars could play a big part under Arne Slot next season.

Arne Slot started Liverpool‘s pre-season tour in winning fashion after beating Real Betis 1-0 on Saturday.

The Reds are yet to complete a new signing since Slot took the managerial hot seat, making them the only ‘Big Six’ club in the Premier League yet to conclude any transfer business.

However, progress is being made in the transfer window and HITC revealed that Liverpool could strike a deal to sign an exciting 17-year-old prospect on a free transfer.

They also retain an interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres as they continue their search for a centre-forward.

But one area where Liverpool are well-stacked is in midfield and Lucas Leiva believes two young midfielders could impress under Slot.

Lucas Leiva names Liverpool duo who can shine under Slot

Leiva spent 10 years at Anfield during his playing days and he left the club as a cult hero who is still adored by the fanbase.

After watching Liverpool in action in pre-season, he named Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott as two players who could have big roles to play under Slot.

“We are looking forward,” Leiva said in an interview with Sky Sports.

“I think new ideas and new players will be really important to see how they adapt.

“I think Curtis [Jones] will play a big part, [Harvey] Elliott as well.

“He is a very young player that is already established so we’re hoping that these players will be a great addition for Arne this season.”

Both Jones and Elliott started in the friendly against Real Betis in Pittsburgh over the weekend, suggesting they are part of Slot’s plans moving forward.

The two academy products are adored by the fanbase and have proven they can perform as first-team starters.

However, Slot was dealt a blow when Jones suffered an injury against Betis. Provided he is okay, they could both have big roles to play when Liverpool kick off their Premier League campaign against Ipswich Town next month.
