NIESV Lagos branch holds 2024 MCPD training program

• Charges Members On Adopting Modern Tech. On Field

On October 17, 2024, the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Lagos State Branch, also known as the very branch, held its annual Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) training at the LCCI Building, 1, Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. The training brought together industry leaders and members of the noble institution to explore the transformative impact of technology on the real estate sector.

The day’s event recorded a large turn-out of participants as members came from far and wide to participate actively in the compulsory training programme approved by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Regulatory Board of Nigeria, ESVARBON as worthy of 3-point credit.

Organized by the Lagos state branch MCPD Chairman, Godspower Omozusi under the regime of ESV Gbenga Ishmail, the Lagos state branch chairman, the programme was chaired by ESV Otunba Bola Onabadejo. It featured 3 different training sessions facilitated by top-notch and highly experienced resource persons such as Mr Femi Madariola, partner of PWC, duly represented by Mr Rafael, a Statistic Director at PWC, ESV. Akin Opatola, TPL. Gabriel Adeyanju , ESV. Adetoun Otepola, ESV Modupe Anjous, ESV. Storehouse Odeleye and ESV Tokunbo Akinhanmi all dispensed values.

The Chairman of the day, ESV Otunba Bola Onabadejo in his opening remarks focused on “Embracing Technology: The Future of Real Estate Services,” where he explained how digital transformation and big data analytics can be used to predict data and enhance understanding of consumer behaviour and drive innovation in real estate practices like green building. He emphasized the professionals’ capability to advance if they embrace and adapt to changes.

During the presentation, Mr. Femi Madariola, represented by Mr. Rafael, discussed the future of real estate services through technology. He explained why real estate has become the biggest beneficiary of technological advancement, outlining the major trends driving changes across industries. He also highlighted the “essential eight” technologies shaping the world, which include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality, Blockchain, Drones, Internet of Things, Robotics, Virtual Reality, and 3-D Printing.

ESV Akin Opatola gave a presentation on “Adapting to Market Disruptions: How to Navigate the Changing Real Estate Landscape and ChatGPT.” He emphasized the importance of adaptability in the face of key market disruptions, such as economic shifts, technological advancements, environmental and regulatory changes, demographic shifts, and changing consumer preferences.

He also discussed the significance of branding and competence, as well as the three Rs – Reputation, Relationships, and Referrals – which are crucial in the evolving landscape.

Town Planner Gabriel Adeyanju presented the use of Google Maps/GPS in identifying and locating properties, as well as the use of drones in real estate. He showcased how Google Maps could be used for aerial photography and videography, surveying and land development, and monitoring construction progress.
  
Esv Adetoun Otepola discussed leveraging drone technology for a cleaner future, addressing industry challenges such as safety risks and environmental concerns.

The event ended with a positive message from Mallam Bature, the 1st Vice President of the institution’s national body, who thanked the attendees for their participation. He then conveyed the goodwill message of the President, ESV Victor Alonge. The host, who is also the Chairman of the very branch, encouraged participants in his closing remarks to apply and work together on the knowledge gained during the training.

During the 2024 MCPD event, ESV Otunba Bola Onabadejo, the Chairman of the day, and the chairman of NIESV, Lagos Branch, presented plaques to all the distinguished contributors. Their efforts were recognized for making the event a success and for advancing the profession.

Participants found the training valuable and are looking forward to subsequent sessions by NIESV Lagos branch. Many have already begun implementing the lessons in their professional endeavours.
