Senators Reach Infrastructure Agreement

A group of GOP senators said Wednesday they had reached an agreement with democrats on the major issues of a nearly $1 trillion infrastructure package. 

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told lawmakers to be ready for a vote as soon as Wednesday night. 

“We now have an agreement on the major issues,” Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) said. “We are prepared to move forward.” 

“We’ve got a deal,” Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) said. “We’re finishing up some language, but we’ve got a deal.” 

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, a group of 10 senators has been working on the infrastructure agreement over the last several weeks and months. Portman said the agreement was expected to include $110 billion for improvements to roads. Sen. Collins said the legislation would include $65 billion for expanded access to affordable broadband Internet. 

“Our goal is to ensure there is far greater access to high-speed Internet services,” Collins said.
