Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Final NYCC Clip is a Reality Check
The final season for Star Trek: Lower Decks is almost upon us, and the show’s pulling out all the stops for its last hurrah. It’s always a given the USS Cerritos and her crew will get up to some shenanigans, since that’s just what they do. But the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic-Con promises some even more wacky fun in the form of some dimension hopping.
While Beckett (Tawny Newsome) and Boimler (Jack Quaid) got to do some light time-traveling over to live-action with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds last year, Lower Decks brings the whole cast along for the ride this time. As they investigate a quantum fissue in space—one of many that’ve been popping up lately, according to Beckett and T’Lyn—the ship gets pulled in and blasted out the other side to another dimension. To make things more complicated, the Cerritos is contacted by…the Cerritos, captained by Mariner, or rather, Becky Freeman.
Alternate realities are nothing new for Star Trek, but Lower Decks has never dipped into it before now. Beyond the shock of seeing Mariner in the captain’s chair, this other Cerritos’ crew features some of the main crew with some interesting new looks, like Boimler with a Riker-esque goatee and Rutherford with more mechanical body parts. And this being the end of the show’s journey, it’ll be interesting to see how the prime Lower Deckers react to seeing these new versions of themselves as they’re taking on more responsibilities and boldly going to new places in life.
Star Trek: Lower Decks’ final season premieres next Thursday, October 24.
