Stockton poet needs votes to win ‘America’s Got Talent’

Stockton native and poet Brandon Leake is one day away from finding out if he is the winner of NBC’s talent competition “America’s Got Talent.”Leake, a spoken word artist, performed on the finals Tuesday night. As a Black man who grew up on the tough streets on the southside of Stockton, Leake spoke about how his mother’s greatest fear is that he will become “America’s next most popular hashtag.”During the semifinals, which were two weeks ago, Leake performed a poem about his relationship with his father and how it impacted him growing up.Onstage, Leake is known as a poet, educator and motivational speaker.
