Thailand launches e-visa service for Pakistani, Afghan travelers
ISLAMABAD: The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad has introduced an e-visa service for residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan, simplifying the process for obtaining a Thai visa.
The new platform will be operational from January 1, 2025, according to an official announcement by the embassy.
The move aims to make travel to Thailand—known for its rich history, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture—more accessible to tourists. Pakistani and Afghan nationals will no longer need to submit their passports and original documents in person at the embassy in Islamabad.
Under the new system, visa applicants will complete their applications online, with approvals communicated via email. The confirmation email must then be printed and presented to the airline at departure and to immigration officials upon arrival in Thailand.
The embassy clarified that while the e-visa platform eliminates the need for physical document submissions, online payment is not yet available. Visa fees must still be paid at the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad.
The embassy will continue to accept in-person applications until December 24, 2024. This transition marks a significant step in streamlining the visa process for Pakistani and Afghan travelers planning visits to Thailand.
