Toronto police say remains of murder victim found in landfill

SOUTHWOLD, Ont. – Toronto police say they have found the remains of a murder victim in a landfill.

Investigators say they found Nathaniel Brettell’s body on Aug. 26.

Officers had been searching a waste management site in Southwold, Ont., for several weeks as part of the homicide investigation.

The 57-year-old Brettell was last known to be at home in Toronto’s west end on Jan. 21.

Ahmed Al-Farkh, 34, of Toronto was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on May 12.

The landfill excavation involved multiple units from across the Toronto police service including homicide, police dogs, and others.
