WCGW Riding down a hill with a skateboard
I have a few times. Theoretically you just lower your speed and/or your center of gravity. Problem is that crouching also lowers your air resistance and can help you accelerate. Ultimately, the hill determines the best course of action. I’ve saved most wobbles by going into a slide after crouching. Initial drop in center of gravity helps break the wobble to stabilize you and help prep the slide, while the slide cuts your speed down. It’s way easier if you have sliding gloves – just a glove with a smooth puck on the palm that glides over the asphalt. Standing slides are possible, but once that wobble kicks in, that’s gonna be a rough attempt.
Anyone who bombs hills and doesn’t know how to slide is a damned fool. You’re totally at the mercy of the hill. And if that’s the case, they usually don’t know the limits of the board they’re on anyway. You get a feel for how fast you can rip before wobbles show up, and it’s far easier to deal with before it happens.
