BJP’s ‘Satyagraha’ seeking shifting of dumping yard in Bhubaneswar enters 8th day

The ‘Satyagraha’ launched by the Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding shifting of the dumping yard at Gadakana in Bhubaneswar has entered the eighth day on Tuesday.

The saffron party workers have been staging the protest in front of the Sainik School gate for the last one week. They have been demanding the shift of the Temporary Transit Centre (TTS) to make the denizens of Bhubaneswar free from the stinking smell of the garbage dumped at the place.

The party workers have warned that they will continue their strike until their demands are met and the dumping yard issue is resolved completely.

As per reports, people of the locality are even scared of passing through the area where garbage has been dumped like a small hill. Due to the garbage piling, several people have been getting infected with many diseases. The unhealthy environment has allegedly caused the death of some people in the area.

“When the people of the locality staged protests over the dumping yard which is severely affecting their health, the government didn’t pay any heed to their demands. Then BJP was forced to take the issue of the people and stage protests against it. Our Satyagraha has entered the eighth day today. However, the government has not responded to our demands yet. The MLA and Mayor have not expressed any kind of empathy towards the ordeal of the people so far,” said a protesting BJP leader.

“They are only giving false assurances. However, no action has been taken to solve the dumping yard issue yet,” he added.

“The government officials have been giving only false promises to the people of the area and cheating them. The BMC Commissioner and Mayor have no coordination among them. We will continue our protest till our demands are met,” said another BJP leader.

On the other hand, BMC authorities said that it would take six to seven months to solve the dumping yard issue in the area.
