College football odds Week 1: How to bet Houston-UTSA
No. 24 Houston begins its 2022 season on the road against UTSA.
The Cougars are coming off one of their best seasons since 1990, going 12-2 in 2021 to finish with the No. 17 overall ranking, their second-highest ranking since 1991.
Like the Cougars, the Roadrunners also had a great 2021 season. In fact, it was the best season in UTSA’s history. The team went 12-2 to win Conference USA and was ranked for the first time in the program’s history.
Here’s everything you need from a betting perspective on Saturday’s Houston-UTSA game, from the point spread, moneyline, total over/under and stats to know (odds via FOX Bet).

Point spread: Houston -4 (Houston favored to win by more than 4 points, otherwise UTSA covers)
Moneyline: Houston -189 favorite to win (bet $10 to win $15.29 total); UTSA +140 underdog to win (bet $10 to win $24 total)
Total scoring over/under: 62 points scored by both teams combined
Houston coach Dana Holgorsen has done well straight-up (SU) as a road favorite in his career. On the flip side, he’s been under .500 against the spread (ATS). He’s 21-9 SU in his career (7-1 since he joined Houston) but 14-15-1 ATS (4-4 since joining) as a road favorite in that span.
Houston went 8-6 ATS and 12-2 SU last season, while UTSA went 9-5 ATS and 12-2 SU.
Eight of 14 Houston games went over last season, and UTSA was in the same boat. Eight of its games also went over.
Lastly, per FOX Sports Research, UTSA is 13-12-1 ATS and 6-20 SU as home underdogs.
