Electoral Commission Finally Responds To Museveni’s Papers’ Request.
The Electoral Commission has finally responded to the request for Museveni’s papers.
While appearing at NBS Television last night, Mr.Paul Bukenya, the Electoral Spokesperson responded to the question on why President Museveni’s academic papers have not been given out to Lawyer Muwada Nkunyinji, the lawyer that asked for them, especially in a manner similar to that the commission used to give out presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi’s.
“We received the request and later responded to it” Paul Bukenya said further adding that they don’t respond to private requests publicly and he therefore wasn’t in position to give any details of their response.
We have however learnt that the commission earlier on told the applicant that it wasn’t in order for them to give out the president’s academic documents.
Mulekwa Leonard, the Acting Secretary for the Commission said Museveni’s transcripts which were submitted in 2016 required no verification because they fulfilled all legal requirements for anybody to stand on the Presidential post as per Section 4(15) of Presidential Elections Act 2005
“For avoidance of doubt if a Candidate has an advanced level certificate obtained in Uganda or from a former or any of its constituent colleges, there shall be no need for verification of his or her qualifications by National Council of Higher Education,” he said.
