Pizza Lovers Unite!

After two successful runs in New York City’s Arthur Avenue (the famed neighborhood also known as “The Bronx’s Little Italy”) in 2018 and 2019; like many other gatherings, the pandemic paused 2020’s New York Pizza Festival. But a passion for pizza prevails and organizers have taken the event online, opening up the celebration to pie lovers across the country.

This free two-day virtual event will stream this weekend via Facebook and YouTube, benefitting Slice Out Hunger, a nationwide organization that produces pizza-related events and campaigns to support hunger relief and prevention initiatives across the United States. Attendees will learn how to make different styles of pizza (are you a Neapolitan or Sicilian fan?) from home with some of the nation’s top pizzaiolo and will include demos hosted by World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani and top woman-in-pizza Giorgia Caporuscio. Other highlights include a tour of Arthur Avenue and its rich history; a celebration and discussion of the four pillars of square pizza – Sicilian, Grandma, Roman, and Detroit; and the evolution and renaissance of the New York slice. There will also be the opportunity to win prizes through contests and giveaways. The festive spirit of the live event will carry over to the virtual world, creating an interactive community of the best craftsmen, producers, and pizza lovers across the country!

If you’re wondering about actually eating some pizza, never fear! Over 250 pizzerias across the country have created special pies that will be available over the festival weekend, with $1 from each sold benefitting Slice Out Hunger (Click here to search for a participating pizzeria near you). If there’s not one year you, go ahead and order from your favorite place (you can still donate here). If you’re feeling really motivated, go ahead and make your own to munch on during the festivities.
